Refrain… my first thought was the negative definition of refrain, not doing something, but my next thought was of refrain as in a response in a liturgy, or a chorus in a song. As with many people lately, I have been trying to get outside and enjoy the Spring. I am watching and waiting for the buds to open. Every day a little more color and life appears. It reminds me that all of creation sings God’s glory. The song of the ages resonates through nature. It is a natural refrain to the Creator. As I thought more of this beautiful picture, I was reminded of the angels that are at the throne night and day, declaring, “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God almighty”, and then John goes on in Revelation 4 to tell us that all the elders lay their crowns before the throne and bow low and give the refrain;

“You are worthy, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they were created
and have their being.”

There is something about the beauty in nature, especially the sunrise, that causes me to join in this eternal refrain. I am moved as I catch a glimpse of a piece of God’s majesty and power, and then I am humbled that He has concern for us. What is man that God is mindful of us? But He is, and He is always worthy of the glory, and honor due His name along with the refrain of deep gratitude that His mercies are new every morning. Great is His faithfulness.

    1. The bluebirds over Dover’s cliffs
      are dancing in my mind,
      rather than the drumming riffs
of a band like Third Eye Blind.
The hopeful words from Vera Lynn
      have pushed out music staples,
because the state that I am in
      has oddly made me able
      to appreciate the classic style,
      the haunting melody,
the images to make me smile
      against adversity.
Thus, my friend, the bluebirds soar
      in my skies, my cancer-ward.

      1. So happy to find a poem here from you. Read your post and just started to pray for you and your wife. May the joy of the Lord continue to strengthen you and give you the peace that passes all understanding.

  1. The serenity of a sunrise. Since I’ve been home for two months, it’s gotten lighter earlier each day. I have my quiet time at the dining room table where I can see the blue sky getting bluer by the minute. God is good.
Thanks for a thought full post reminding of God’s glory.
