Tell… Our words say a lot about what we believe, but really our actions tell way more. My husband always says, “show me your checkbook and calendar and I will tell you what you actually believe.” I was thinking about how many times I think I am handling something, or not worried or stressed but my body tells on me with headaches, acne, restless sleep, etc… I have a room that tells me when my brain is too busy, because it becomes a dumping ground for all the things I do not want to deal with.
I have people in my life who are amazed that I seem to know things are not going well in their life because they never said a word, but their actions or lack thereof told me way more. The importance of rest and being still is a great practice because it helps us to look at our life and see what we actually believe, see what is still not lining up with what we say we believe.
“Your actions speak so loudly, I cannot hear what you are saying.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson
Being still helps us see where:
We say we love, but we are impatient, rude, disrespectful, selfish
We say we care, but then we never follow up or take action behind our words
We share the post or sign the petition, but never get involved in making the injustice right
We want to get healthy, but we keep eating the same, sleeping the same, moving the same
We want things to change in our marriage or parenting, but we keep speaking the same, doing the same, acting the same
Our actions tell on us. We say we believe or want something, but our actions show if it is true. We need the inside and outside to line up. Only the Holy Spirit can do that, but He asks for our cooperation. We can say we want Him to fill us full and do His will, but unless we obey, our actions tell on our heart of what we really want. Thankfully God’s mercies are new every morning and He will help us get up and start anew pursuing the thing things that we say we already believe. He will show us and teach us if we are willing to follow.
* I am joining Five Minute Fridays in a 31 day Writing Challenge. Each day I will be writing on a different word prompt for at least 5 minutes for the month of October.
