Deep… “The purpose in a man’s heart is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out.” Proverbs 20:5 There is a deeper narrative in this world that was set before time. That deep narrative is set in our hearts. Until we are connected to it, we will not experience true peace. Listening deeply to the Word and surrounding ourselves with wise counsel helps us to hear the true narrative that is flowing deep in our soul. In order to be that person of understanding, we are told to be quick to listen, and slow to speak, slow to become angry. We need to be still and know who God is. Taking time to be fully present in nature, in the Word, and with our brothers and sisters helps us to gain our bearings, and tune our ears more fully to the deeper narrative that God set into motion with His spoken Word. All of Creation declares it, and every human being bears the image. We must listen deeper and look deeper to see and hear the deeper story written deep into the fiber of our being.
I am reminded of the scene from Magician’s Nephew that describes the dawn of Narnia
In the darkness something was happening at last. A voice had begun to sing…it seemed to come from all directions at once…Its lower notes were deep enough to be the voice of the earth herself. There were no words. There was hardly even a tune. But it was beyond comparison, the most beautiful noise he had ever heard. (Lewis, C.S., Magicians Nephew p62)
This scene I feel deep in my soul again and again with every sunrise I see. The dawning of a new day inviting us to be part of something so deep that all of Creation groans for it, an opportunity to hear the deep song, the deeper narrative being told if only we will listen and draw it out.
* I am joining Five Minute Fridays in a 31 day Writing Challenge. Each day I will be writing on a different word prompt for at least 5 minutes for the month of October.
