Question…

Oh question… I am good at that. I have been told that I question too much, or that I ask too many questions. I am reminded of a quote from Andy Stanley that says you need to ask the right questions to get the right answers. Which of course sends me off on what is the right question to ask? The book of Job is a great spot to stop and look for good questions. Job did not sin but he did find out that he was asking the wrong questions. His questions are similar to the ones I get stuck on: when will this stop?, when is God going to do something about this?,  what have I done?, what have they done?, what is the meaning of all this?, but the true question is Who are you God? What are you like?

God comes to Job in his ash heap and questions him, showing who He really is. God asks a lot of questions of Job, not ones that  Job can answer affirmative too, questions that Job cannot even begin to wrap his mind around. Job gets the point… “Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know., …My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you.” (Job 42:2-6) The true questions lead us into God’s presence. He is patient with all the other questions, but he is waiting for us to ask to see Him, and when we do, we are amazed, and all the rest fades into its proper place in the scheme of life.

  1. “The true questions lead us into God’s presence. He is patient with all the other questions, but he is waiting for us to ask to see Him, and when we do, we are amazed, and all the rest fades into its proper place in the scheme of life.” Amen. Thank you for sharing this powerful truth. Visiting from FMF.

  2. I never asked God why this is,
why I have to die so young.
I figured, Well, that’s His biz,
and into the flames I am flung.
But a funny thing did happen
    in cancer’s hellbound zone
    in a life suddenly misshapen,
I found I was not alone.
God sent His Son and guidance,
to bear the flames for me.
    Together, through His providence
    we will find victory.
My voice is ruined, but I still sing,
and I would not change a thing.
