Goal (FMF Link Up)

Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have laid hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize of God’s heavenly calling in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:14

I get distracted by goals at times. I need them, but they can become a taskmaster. I end up desiring goals when God asks for me to abide. I want to know where we are headed and what I need to do to get there.  He replies, “Abide and I will show you. I will tell you what you need to know, when you need to know.”

Goal… what is it for this season? What am I waiting for, and what am I moving towards? Again He replies, “abide, walk with me, lean on me, and press in to know me better.” That is the goal, to love God and love others. Everything hangs on these two commands. The rest is just details, many very good, but just the details.

The real goal is to press on to know Christ, to follow Him with all my heart, mind, soul and strength. The goal is to see Him more clearly and for others to see Him in me more clearly. He will define the goal if I will be still and know that He is God. If I will abide and trust, I will know Him more fully.

“Oh, that we might know the LORD! Let us press on to know him. He will respond to us as surely as the arrival of dawn or the coming of rains in early spring.” Hosea 6:3

  1. I thought the goals that I held dear
were God’s bright plans for me.
But He knew I couldn’t face the fear
    of my ordained destiny.
I sought to be the hardest man,
albeit with a heart of gold,
and thus, indeed, did God’s plan
    for my misspent life unfold.
He gave me tumours, and the pain
that shook me to my core,
and then did He help me regain
my strength; and I could take more.
He bade me witness His Holy Heart,
and in my way, I play my part.

    1. Thank you for sharing. I appreciate your poetry. Thankfully God is so gracious and patient with us as we get distracted. Blessings as you pursue and trust God’s heart and plans for you.

  2. I, too, find that goals can be a taskmaster – but I do seem to achieve more with them. Catch 22 for sure –

Just need to focus on those two goals – love Him and love others. Enjoyed your post….have a great week ahead!
