True You, Review

TrueYouI was so thankful to receive an advanced copy of True You: Letting Go of Your False Self to Uncover the Person God Created by Michelle DeRusha in exchange for my honest review. The following opinion is all mine.

trueyou1Timing is everything with a book and the timing of this book was perfect. I am in the process of figuring out what I am going to be when I grow up again. I have been home since November 22 of 1997…. that is a lot of years. I have been homeschooling my two boys through their whole academic careers. (So crazy to think about). The last few years we have been transitioning out of that season and heading into this in-between season. It has been very interesting and at times very challenging. As I read Michelle DeRusha’s book I felt I found a kindred friend. I related so much to many of her stories she shared. Her vulnerability and honesty made this book very accessible and enjoyable.

It also came at a time where I needed a reminder of remembering who I am in Christ, not what I do for Him, although there is value in that, what is even more important is who He says I am. DeRusha allows the reader into to her heart and journey in a way that encourages and challenges the reader to take time to be still and remember who God is, and who He says we are. The challenge to be still and know He is God was a reminder I needed for my soul. The reminder that I am the Beloved because I am His is one I am practicing resting in. The idea of “pruning open” was a great visual of subtracting to allow the true, healthy identity to grow was a powerful picture. In this transition season it is tempting to run ahead and force growth to happen in places that it used to, instead I am encouraged to allow God to prune away what is no longer needed and train me in this new way, a truer way to go.

I highly recommend this book. It is worth your time. Even if you are not a pusher and doer, there is much to be gleaned. Even the quotes she uses were so good and have lead me to other great books.

I highlighted many pages of this book. One quote that jumps out for me is this one:
